Snow Lodge

Greetings from Old Faithful!

Yes, I'm here. Came down from Mammoth yesterday morning on a very uneventful snow coach ride. It snowed part of the way down.

And it was snowing this morning. After breakfast, I walked over to Old Faithful Geyser, and got there in time to watch it erupt. Had the geyser to myself. The only sound was the roar of the water and steam, the soft sound of the snow hitting my jacket, and the hum of a distant snow blower at the visitor center. Yes, it is very peaceful right now, but all that will change in a couple of days when the hotel opens on the 19th.

No new pictures yet. Probably not until my first weekend off, which should be next week. Don't know what my schedule is yet, but I'll probably get it tomorrow.

Just an update

Welcome baby Piper!

My cute little niece was born Monday night, December 3. She weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and was 19 inches long. Both mom and baby are doing well.

I'm back in Yellowstone, my two month vacation now over. I had a pretty easy drive, and I did spread it out over two days. I'm glad that I did. I don't like to drive more than seven or eight hours in a day (though I have done it once or twice), and this would have been about 10 hours all together. I saw some pretty country in Montana, places I've never been and will have to take time to explore next summer.
Training starts tomorrow at 9am; I'll move to Old Faithful on Saturday morning, which is when the fun will begin. The ranger at the entrance station told me that there is a good amount of snow at Old Faithful for this time of the year. It will be fun to see what "a good amount of snow" looks like. Maybe I will get pictures on the trip down. I'll try.

Pictures forthcoming!

A New Chapter

I'm baaaaaaaack!

Well, my autumn vacation is just about over. I'm starting out on Saturday morning, taking a leisurely drive back to Yellowstone to begin the winter season at Old Faithful Snow Lodge. I'll be back at the front desk, basically doing the same job I spent all summer doing at Grant Village. I'll be taking my time, driving from Emmett to Idaho Falls on Saturday afternoon, then going on to Gardiner on Sunday. Check in is Monday, December 10th, with training beginning on the 11th. We open for the winter season on the 19th and close in mid March. Stay tuned to the website for winter pictures from Jellystone!

I'm counting down the hours to the arrival of my niece. Baby bro Jeff and sis-in-law Wendy are about to be parents! Whoo hoo!!!
